      113d

I don't really tell people, when it happens I just have a funny phrase, "brain not working brain left the building" or something like that, I usually will say give me a second I'll get there and people are usually quite patient

    • Bre19

      I like to take naps

I close my eyes, take a few deep breaths, and try again.

I wanted to try neuriva but my mom wouldn't let me because of the coffee fruit is there anything out there without that in it?

    • DonD

      505d

Neuriva and PQQ Energy (brain supplement) really help me on slow tiresome days to be alert and sharp.

Lists! Main monthly calendar in the kitchen, weekly itinerary in planner, etc. keep track of things in tiers. Prioritize!

    • Tess123

      537d

I keep a calendar/ journal. I can write appointments, things that happened, how I felt. I rely heavily on my calendar. I feel like I remember things easier in that format but it’s wonderful to fall back on!

    • hydroepilepic21

      537d

I've tried everything, including repeating things back to myself and nothing works.

I’ve perfected fighting it off long enough to say “loading” while sticking a finger up in the universal ‘wait’ gesture and folks will usually laugh which breaks tension until I can actually get my last brain cell on the hamster wheel

Reminder with my morning alarm it has a list of everything I do and need to do daily. So I keep up with all of them. Fibro trick! Lol 💜💜💜💜

I use post it notes everywhere and a note book but also just own up to it when it happens I've learned in my 21years of chronic illneses to brush of judgement of others it's too exhausting to let their unimportant opinions of affect how I feel about myself and my conditions

Brain fog is embarrassing cause I can't remember things right in the middle of a sentence 😳

      Being open about it

    • EmmaWai

      602d

Being honest about what's going on. I mean, it's hard when I have brain fog to realize what is going on! But if I do I am honest and sat in a little foggy today or I am dissociating and people generally understand. It's a little awkward but it gets rid of some anxiety

I talked to my migraine Specialist as my brain fog was getting worse and I constantly felt like my head was in a fishbowl. I now have meds that help my migraines from happening as well as alleviating the brain fog.

    • Ethereal

A hot bath helps a little, once I start washing, I like to pretend I'm scrubbing it away

    • gatsbybird

splashing water on my face, driving with the windows down, sometimes just sitting alone for a little bit helps too

Notifications and reminders are a life saver!! Also, in conversations when I forget stuff due to brain fog, I tend to lie...Fake it till you make it amirite? 😂

I know what helps my brain fog at work is I have this excel sheet where I list my tasks and we explain what tasks we did, what we’ll do next week and any challenges and risks that may happen. Keeping that open while I’m working reminds me to log as I go :)

    • chiken

      616d

I literally need a queue to remember smh

    • TheFemaleSmokey

      617d

I always get mad, give up and then remember goes later after it is irrelevant then randomly you will hear me yell across the house "ah ha I remember now" lmao

      619d

My brain fog is crazy ......

    • Cheylo

      621d

I always tell people ahead of time if they're trying to give me important information or a list of things to do, "hold on before you tell me something, let me right it down or I WILL forget." And then if I know the person well enough and if you can say a silly joke to them sometimes I'll add "I have the brain of a pigeon sometimes so let me make sure I get what you say" It helps just to ease the tension a bit from bringing out a method of taking notes before they talk. That and I have notepads all around the house incase I spontaneously need to write down and item I need to put on the grocery list that I keep forgetting. And setting reminders on my phone for time sensitive things. Or if it's an office type setting you can always keep a notebook for notes and if anyone asks you can say your practicing on your workplace skills and taking notes helps you focus. No one will question someone genuinely wanting to improve themselves. 👍

    • killakam

      621d

I have to write everything done.

    • CaitieBug

      621d

Lots of notes. Lots of reminders.

    • outshinesparks93

      621d

This is a pretty common thing for those that don't have something they are freaking with that has a side effect of brain fog. So in my experience I just laugh it off and say whoops give me x amount of time and I'll get back to you, if someone asked a question.

      • outshinesparks93

        621d

      621d

Always noting everything in my phone, either on the calendar or the notes app, because it's something I take everywhere and only lose sometimes, for short periods.

    • Spoonie01

      621d

Majority of the time I tell the people around me that my brain isn't working and I just do my best to relax until it clears. Music helps me with just about everything and it helps wonderfully to give my brain something to focus on rather than the fuzzy white noise in my head.

    • DoodleBug18

      622d

I just try not to talk to anyone and stay by myself til it seems to clear.

    • TheDom98

      622d

It’s the worst feeling, especially when you really can’t allow yourself to be distracted, such as highly responsibility’s moments or new surroundings where you should watch out what you’re stepping onto

    • Tieyonnalane

      622d

Being organized I like that I can schedule things on a notebook or digital calendars that always help me organize on days that I feel like I need to do something ✋

      625d

i make a to do list. this way everything important will get done. set lots of reminders on my phone. but when people ask my something and i don’t know i just say “i forgot” lol

    • SquippyMars

      628d

Being embarrassed isn't the main issue for me, it's getting frustrated that I can't make my brain work. I can't understand the words your saying, I can't think of extremely simple words. I spent like 10 minutes on the word "restaurant" the other day and it haulted the conversation completely. I still don't know how to deal with it, it's honestly my worst issue.

      • suspiciouscat

        625d

@SquippyMars ahh yes the cursed restaurant. i just have to say rest-store-ant in my head…

    • randochikn

      628d

God I start to stumble on words, talk in circles, forget words that are simple and such, I usually just say sorry and that I am tired and stop talking and ask them something

    • Freckledhen

      628d

I feel angry when brain fog is a problem. I've got a very decent I.Q., have taught in the classroom, held leadership positions in various jobs and boards I was on. AND NOW I CAN'T ACCESS WHAT I KNOW IS AVAILABLE INSIDE MY HEAD. I LOOK AND ACT LIKE A VACUOUS ENTITY WITH NO BRAINS AT ALL. I get feelings of shame because I can't perform like I used to. Sometimes, depending on the people, I struggle with guilt. Guilt for causing messy, time-consuming difficulties communicating or getting something accomplished. I make some of my friends mentally tired trying to negotiate my thinking or the lack of it. I don't have a good way to work around it. I just piss some people off when I'm foggy. Hopefully, I'll work through the anger and have a better answer.

    • miaiaia

      629d

I just tell people my brain has switched from fiber internet back to dial up sometimes

    • jdog54321

Dark chocolate actually helps me. Some days are still worse than others, but dark chocolate gives me the edge still and it tastes delicious!

    • hay26

      632d

Just before I left my job as a Foster Care Coordinator, I had a court appearance for one of my kids. This kid stayed into something so we’re ALWAYS in court. Well, we had to do roll call for the court dockets. When they got to me, I went blank. All I needed to say was name, title, and how I’m related to the child. I went totally blank. I thank God that one of my coworkers were there. She introduced herself and me. It was so natural that only she and I knew that I had checked out temporarily. It was too funny to be embarrassing. I just chalked it up. I would write ✍🏽 everything down on a little index card or on my legal pad. It’s something but what can you do? 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

    • Livs26

      640d

I just say "______ is hard" as a way to laugh it off. Like "thinking is hard" or "math is hard." People usually think its funny and agree to go with it.

    • Kokobetic

      641d

If you’re smart, and you know you’re intelligent , then who gives a fart what you say ❤️ I just laugh it off and then show them through my actions at work rather then saying I’m stroking each time I try to use my words

      • Kokobetic

        641d

@Kokobetic Also, most people are understanding and if you have a good team will support you and lift you up when you feel embarrassed. If not, then you have us ❤️

      643d

Give the world a look like Im about to topple empires until I can sort through my thoughts and find the one I had lost! 😂Lol, it's a kinda frightening look. Probably need to work on that...

    • BreBee04

      643d

Joking about it. It makes me less embarrassed and makes others laugh at my jokes instead of my mistakes

    • Talaya

      643d

I work with kids so when it happens I take a step back and verbally say "brain?!" Then come back to what I needed. It helps my students understand that my brain stopped working for a moment and that I needed a minute. It was embarrassing at first, but now everyone around me also understands that I just need a minute.

    • Biosynthesis

      643d

Anecdotally speaking, bupropion + lisdexamfetamine + diazepam + lamotrigine + escitalopram + esketamine works for me personally, but solutions are like fingerprints.

    • Lygia

I just laugh about it most the time. Sometimes it pisses me off but I generally laugh at it.

    • kc123

      646d

To people I know and trust I'll just say it, and to others I'll just say some excuse about needing coffee/more sleep. I also take multivitamins with fish oil in them (which apparently helps brain fog esp in those with adhd) and will take extra salt pills before extra hot days

    • thenxmeless

      646d

Brain fog is a result of your lifestyle.

    • Snowdrift

      646d

My adhd meds. Lol But fr if they don't help I just call the day a loss and take it easy.

    • Ivy_Wolf

      647d

When I have a brain fog when I am alone it feels good do to not think for a while but when I am around people I get a lot of anxiety so I hide it with a big smile and laugh it off like nothing is happening.

    • Dad.of.Many

      648d

Brain fog drives me crazy. Sometimes I try to push it to the back of my mind and busy myself with something. Other times I try to draw to bring things back to focus.

    • Baldeelocks

I work department of mental health and have contact with people daily. When brain goes out the window, as I call, I tell people my brain just went on vacation and forgot to take me. And start on another subject. It happened for my interview for the job as well.

    • Arileartistart

      657d

Honestly, I write down things, or I just go on to something else. I don't get it a lot but if I can't think of a specific word I go to a synonym of said word. Like 'Tenacious' if I can't think of that I say, the word for brave and daring.

    • EmmanuelE

      657d

Dark chocolate helps me. The relief is almost instantaneous

    • Hamster99

      659d

I just tell people I am not feeling well and it's making my brain a little foggy

    • amc

      659d

A lot of times I'll feel this way especially at work. I'll get anxiety thinking everyone can tell how easily I get confused but honestly that's not the case. Most people don't even notice things like this. What I try to do when I'm feeling this way is try my best to slow down my thoughts, break them down one by one and take one step at a time. Sometimes it does take longer but that's okay. We all have our moments and there is nothing wrong with that. For a moment just reset your mind and start from the beginning of your task. When this is happening in a conversation, you can take a minute to recollect. If you need a refresher on a conversation you can always ask by saying "I lost what I was going to say, could you repeat what you said please?" Typically people aren't going to really mind this especially if it can help redirect you.

Music helps me with brain fog. It's something I'm able to focus on easily and get my brain doing brain stuff again.

    • Beetlejuul

This kills me. I'm a medical student and it makes me look dumb. I just fess up and tell people what is going on. It sucks though. So hard.

    • Kerobus

      661d

What I have been doing at the recommendation of my work advisor I carry around a notebook and pen (at work) or take notes on my phone at home and the little reminders help a lot. And I would recommend a notebook that would fit in your pocket for day to day stuff and a larger one for long term things

    • sstorm

      661d

I just tell anyone I talk to, especially in depth conversations, that I'm tired & my brain don't work when its tired. Most ppl get that & can relate. My daughter is the only however that can translate "thingy". There are SO MANY thingies around here. 😄

    • maic

      662d

Vyvanse in the mornings and bypassing caffeine - stimulants won't do anything for brain fog if you're not getting regular sleep so as long as I time things right it works out okay for me (plus regular exercise helps me A LOT to stay as sharp as possible, but I'm super guilty of avoiding it from time to time even though I know it'll make things better!)

    • lilithswan

    • DannyPhantom

      664d

It's so hard to keep up when my head is cloudy, so I just let people know I'm not functioning at full capacity. I need them to explain slower, maybe even cover things multiple times from multiple angles because I can't get my brain to shift it's angle on the topic (if that makes sense)

Not sure if anyone has recommended this but dried LIONS MANE MUSHROOM capsules have helped me for REAL! I started growing my own! Not enough to share and this is not a pitch, but you can get kits online all over, cheap. Tastes like fresh crab (good tasting!) wheN fresh too ! So cool looking, also helped my confidence and depression (process of growing it)! 👍

    • macfightsback

      669d

Brain fog for me is mostly related to intermittent chemo the last 7 years and a little due to aging (in my 60's). I don't always process situations well, a lack of insight and sometimes have trouble finding words for familiar objects or people. I can usually describe it or it will come to me after a few minutes. The lack of insight takes a lot longer and is more scary.

      671d

Many times, I blame it on my past way of living. The fast life, put me in the slow lane. Lol 😆 that's my excuse anyway. I find it very hard at times to stay within a conversation. Or to go to the store and forget why or even to the kitchen. Brain fog sucks. My family, understand why I can't do what I use to do. But strangers.... they aren't getting all of that lol

    • freyaslady

      672d

I wish I could say I have a good work around. I generally just tell people I had a brain fart or my brains not braining today when I just completely forget a very common word or the name of one of my own pets. My husband's name is similar to my exs name and I'm embarrassed how often I say the wrong one when talking to my family.

God it feels good to not be alone. I feel like I'm losing my mind and I'm only 21. I was finally diagnosed so hopefully I can get some help. But it's just gotten so bad. Words don't make sense to me anymore, I can't remember basic things. I have tried so many planners and lists but I have yet to find something that works because I'm just such a disorganized person. I feel like I'm going to need a personal assistant to follow me around all day because I feel like I'm losing more and more brain function every week 😭

Depends on the situation and who I’m around. Sometimes I’ll play it off as being blonde and get people to laugh while I work with them to do the task at hand. If I’m with friends or family I just let them know I having brain fog issues so be prepared.

Try to write everything down, I have a little notebook or I take notes in my phone

    • WantToFeelBetter

      676d

It’s so hard to connect with people when I’m in the fog. I feel utterly useless, trying to put words together. Putting thought into words. Sometimes my brain is so scrambled I just keep to one worded answers or just repeat what is being said. It’s embarrassing. It’s so hard to think it makes me feel stupid. I just want my brain to work.

      676d

I have 2 planners, one for personal use and the other for my crafting. I write down any ideas or important phone conversations. I keep track of appointments in my phone and planner. My husband also puts the appointments in his phone. I still forget stuff though

      • OodlesOfNoodles

        673d

@BrieMarie oooh that's a great idea. I feel like I have so many craft ideas but they're all scattered around on different lists and papers😭 what kind of planner do you use? Do you use a physical one or just a phone one?

    • AMWes

      678d

My friends know that I experience brain fog and chronic fatigue and are super understanding when I tell them that I'm having an off day/flare up. As far as places like work go, I just try to work however I can, even if that means only giving like 50%. I know that isn't ideal advice but the world is cruel, especially if you live in an area with "At Will" employment.

There are many safe supplements that have helped me greatly. Most important - A good amount of DHA’s and EPA’s. Ginkgo, Vinpocetine, Carnitine and saffron. All these will help your foggy brain and memory.

I was undergoing chemotherapy and working 3rd shift and had trouble with wakefulness, and my train of thought was constantly shriveled up and going poof! I couldn't think straight. Modafinil saved me. Took it for 2 years before each shift and now I only use it every once in a while when I get that strange foggy feeling. It gave my brain a chance to heal, and helped me keep my job.

At work, we have a display full of pamphlets in a clear container. I wrote random information about the location like prices, events, and such that I need to remember in color coded pens and taped it to the back of the container. It helps out new employees as well as giving me more opportunities to remember what to say. If words just aren't working at the moment, one of my coworkers take over before I even realize, as I've explained it in the past to them and they are all very understanding.

      • OodlesOfNoodles

        673d

@milide God same. I was scared I was losing my mind. I couldn't remember ANYTHING. I can not focus on anything. I feel so stupid everytime I'm having a conversation or trying to remember something my mind just blanks. But yes it always helps to remember that it's not my fault, and there's not much to be done at that moment. I just try to write down as much as I can

      • OodlesOfNoodles

        673d

@AndThereSheGoes but yes I have like a list of words that I actually write down when I see them like "oh yeah that word is useful but I definitely won't remember that"

        673d

@AndThereSheGoes That's a great idea. And oh my god i feel the same way. All I can do is think to myself "if I could remember words I'd run circles around your argument" lol. I don't really have one tbh, common sense just fails me and I tend to misinterpret questions a lot. I honestly didn't even realize that it was probably a result of my ADHD until...now actually. The term brain fog is relatively new to me. I tend to plan things out a ahead of time so that I don't have to worry about figuring things out in the moment but I hate asking questions because I have anxiety so...it's a vicious cycle.

I have a condition that makes me have brain fog and having ADHD really doesn't help my case either. I chug caffeine to keep going but I know that's not healthy. I go to school far from my house and sometimes I'm scared to get in my car because I can't focus on just feel "out of it." Anything helps!

        673d

@Mariuugh you're not rude at all lol don't worry. But same that's how I feel a lot of the time. I think there's some good supplements listed a couple comments down, that improve memory and stuff. Also brain games are good, like exercise for your mind. Lists also help. Also letting people around you know is good, so they can understand and maybe help you if you need it

    • AllyKay

One of the things I hate about having brain fog is that I feel like I have to explain myself to those around me, whether they noticed or not. I just get so self conscious, like that they might be judging me or thinking that I'm weird or unintelligent. Sometimes, I'll crack jokes to divert the attention from the situation, but I too am searching for a better way to cope with it.

I wouldn't exactly call it an adaptive workaround, but my world shrank considerably when my symptoms got in the way of working. I used to be the one who was always ready with a witty remark, walked with honors for my BA, always remembered birthdays and the plots of books and movies. I got so used to being known for my cleverness in my friend group that I sort of just stopped talking to most of the people I knew before. I was embarrassed enough asking for the total a second time from a dude baked to the degree just under "Reefer Madness," whom I'll most likely never see again, at the store tonight. How do I reconnect with folks who knew me back in the Beforefore Times, when I knew their birthdays, and the day of the week? I've gotten past a great deal of the hiding, and a smaller circle certainly makes it easier to know who is really a good friend and who isn't. But oh man, I think the brain fog might be the thing that hit me the hardest in terms of the person I thought I was vs the person I have to learn how to be now.

I don't understand the word workaround. I have used the word brain fog especially when I got very little sleep when I was helping with three newborn kittens and anorexic mama cat and felt like I was up 24/7. But brain fog also can be that somebody is getting older and it may start happening more often and they may end up with dementia or Alzheimer and then it could be a concern

I've had brain fog since 2005. I have maybe 2 days a year I feel good. It is extremely emotionally exhausting, on top of the fatigue. It came about after having binge type anorexia for 8 years, I was extremely sick and malnourished, on top of food allergies coming to light at the same time. Not sure if my eating disorder caused my food allergies, but I have never had a clear head since. I saw on here someone has had success with CBD supplements, has anyone else? What supplements or anything has helped clear the fog for you? I'm desperate.

@jeb EDs can def cause sensitivities and allergies to food, when we restrict long enough our body becomes unaccustomed to certain foods, when we reintroduce them our body is like wow what the heck is this

Medication helps me the most with this, but another trick I learned from ptsd therapy is grounding. Try the 54321 method, where you find 5 things you can see, 4 you can hear, 3 you can feel, 2 you can smell, and one you can taste. (Or you can mix these up however works best for your situation!) It works best if you can describe these things in great detail. Hope this helps a little!

When brain fog hits me, I get anxious. Luckily I am retired now, so no "at work" issues. When I worked as an RN, I switched to a desk job, as I worried about making a med mistake working in patient care. Now when I get foggy, followed by the anxiety, I stop what I am doing and take a break. My husband understands so no need to explain. Sometimes I have to breakdown a task into several different steps to avoid getting overwhelmed.

I have good days and bad days, but the bad days are really concerning. For instance, taking a phone message at work and writing the same word twice, just spelled differently (to explain, quartex cortex- not meaning to.) and reading a hair barrett to say a strange word, it took me staring at it to realize it really read DREAM. The M looked like 2 LLs. It took me about 20 seconds to spell "late" the other day. I couldn't figure out what it started with in the first 5-10 seconds. This is coming from someone who has always excelled in spelling. I take it seriously bc I suck in math. Lol

Not a lot of things used to help.. having people around that understand that I'm not trying to be difficult really has changed my life. I've also taken to using Google calendars for literally everything, even drinking water. But that could also be my adhd.. dunno if others with brain fog forget little things like this? It has helped more than I can express to just be gentle with myself and try to breathe through my panic when I realize I've gone blank. To just laugh it off. It's taken me 44 years but I realize most people don't even notice it, it's me that's being so hard on myself, and beating myself up mentally over it just makes things so much worse.

I am 73 and have fallen many times (usually resulting in a hard blow to my head) in the last four years, due to loss of balance. More than a few doctors have tried to figure out why. I won't bore you with the details, but the last doctor I saw (ENT, a month ago) did a CT scan of my head and diagnosed Hydrocephalus. The ventricles in my brain are not draining the cerebrospinal fluid back to my spine, causing pressure on my brain. Consequently, I lose my balance and fall, have terrific headaches much of the time, have urinary urgency incontinence, am unsteady on my feet, and my short term memory (Where did i put my keys?) and word retrieval abilities are suffering--all the classic signs of Hydrocephalus. No doubt the head trauma from the falls certainly hasn't helped. I will see a local brain surgeon next Thursday (5/26/22) to learn about shunt surgery and other options of treatment. Anyway, I hope this helps some of you who are dealing with "brain fog."

A few boundaries for myself, such as no Facebook posts after 9pm because I never have my wits about me and regret it later. This is rough, I wish I could journal I want to I just can't seem to do it, I make so many lists, use so many post it's, tried a note book and always keep it on my that didn't work I looked around my office and all within arms reach on the table or shelf or in drawers I found 15 different notebooks that I've been using to try to remember things I try sensing emails to myself to remember using my Google calendar, I love planners I have a bunch of happy planners I love to decorate them! But I'll use it for like a week max and then I can't stick with it. I lose my train of thought mid sentence forget important things for work I know I know but it eludes me I mess up words I use to have such a great memory and was known for it growing up but it's gone and I feel like I have to figure out this new me but I like the old me I just break down and cry alot and it's really affecting my job I feel like I'm going to be let go any day now, and I'm working over my hours every single week and come in on the weekend to try and catch up when things come back to me and I'm not getting paid for that but I'm bending over backwards working very hard but I feel like any day now I'm going to lose my job and I can't afford that they are already so flexible and I have great benefits I can't afford to lose this job. I mostly experience brain fog when trying to come up with words, or loosing focus mid sentence. I stutter and stumble over words sometimes and will just blank on perfectly easy words. I find that having a sense of humor about it is really helpful and just telling people that this is something that affects me. When I loose focus mid thought or forget what I was going to say, I find having filler phrases or words like “so yeah” or “oop sorry my brain is playing catch up” helps me pull my brain Back into focus. All and all surrounding myself with patient and loving people that I feel comfortable laughing at myself with really has helped

Great question! Tbh I don’t tell anyone about my brain fog, except my close friends. I’m only 19, so everyone assumes I’m healthy. But I also have ADHD, so I tend to just blame it on my ADHD brain, but managers at work (especially the one with ADHD) treats me like I’m so stupid and incapable even though I’m one of the hardest and most efficient workers there! It’s really annoying :( but I do think honesty is a good root, especially if you’re older, bc people are more likely to take your brain fog more seriously.

Im curious to know more about this med! I looked it up and saw it’s used to treat constipation though, does it come with adverse effects?

I go with the flow of my brain fog. If I can’t remember anything that day or days I just enjoy the day as if I had nothing to do.

I've found that journaling can be really beneficial in managing brain fog. It's helped me keep on track and remember important events and self care tasks when I have foggy days 😊

@CmcC love this. I need to start journaling again. I used to years ago but I’m so emotionally and physically exhausted after working all day that I need to make it a priority or I’ll forget some great memories or little successes that may keep me motivated on my struggle bus days.

I hate it. It brings me to tears a lot. Not being able to remember ANYTHING. My bf gets upset at this. I cant help it. And not being able to use my words correctly or quickly anymore...makes me just want to stay silent now. Im having a hard time with this over anything else im dealing with medically. Post it notes sounds helpful. Thank you.

@Daughternature7 I feel you there. Shame comes when I get the questions of why I didn't think something through before acting. Losing your thought half way through. Yeah! I don't wish it on anyone, but it is hard to explain or share in a way that people can truly understand that it doesn't make you dumb, weak or aloof.

half the time i don't even notice i'm having it until i've made a bunch of mistakes. sometimes even then it still has to be pointed out to me. i experience it most days anymore, so ive just kind of hoped people around me get used to me not being the person i used to/the person i always thought of myself as. i've always been detail-oriented, quick-witted, curious. a perfectionist who works to my own detriment. it was failing even back in middle school with adhd and all, but even then, i used to be known for my detailed memory and my good advice. now i'm kinda just... here, haha i'm having to reassess what it means to be me and it's a struggle, but the more i realise how imperfect everyone else also is, that it's not just me... and that my spaciness can be endearing without meaning people think i'm stupid... the more ok i am with not being 'the smart one' anymore

Always have something to do .. if there isnt something to do .. fine something wether its cook go for a walk apply to a Job etc .. it helps when one can communicate with each other .. like we are on the same page an know what it is to well Live a wonderful life .. some things lead to chores or needing to find our wallet or something like keys .. cant go until we find then .. so we pray look around a little an if we still can't remember what we are trying to .. if we can help stay safe an secure we go on our merry way if security means stay put until remembrance comes then we do so ..

hugs, that hits home hard. I had a small stroke in 2012 the Illinois dr ignored despite catching it on CT scan my husband wanted to check on the inoperable brain tumor from 2007. 8 MONTHS later after the ct scan i finally had an appointment to inform me yes i had in fact HAD a stroke! My advice is learning to laugh is probably the most important thing. It makes " normies" nervous & usually they stop laughing at it. <3

That’s a big deal for me since I’m type 1 diabetic and let me tell you it is HARD for people with my disease to lose weight and keep it off!! Brain fog is ridiculous. I live alone and have no one to remind me of anything. I’ve paid so many late fees because I forget. Names I’ve known for years I’m unable to recall. I have posted notes all over my house, and still get overwhelmed. I depend on my phone a lot, but unable to take into work at the prison where I work as a psychologist.

@Shared_Rain if you are able to wear a smart watch you can get one, that mirrors your phone in many ways, for reminders, making notes of things, etc.

@Shared_Rain I make a list each day of important things. I find that since I've come off alot of meds and been watching my diet my brain is much clearer. I struggle with focusing like reading. It's difficult especially getting started.

      • EpilepsySux

        702d

@Shared_Rain This sounds so much like me. I also have moments at work where I will not be able to recall a co workers name. That is really embarrassing. I don't live alone, but I still have post-it notes hanging everywhere and I can't go anywhere without my maps ap giving me the directions to where I need to go. As far as late payments, I put as many bills on autopay as as possible.

        • PrettyFairy

      • MoonFairy

@Shared_Rain psych is my passion and I’ve always wanted to be a psychologist!! But I constantly worry about whether I’m going to be able to get through school with my conditions (dropped out of university once, and once with online community college classes) but now taking very light course loads at community college. But I also constantly worry that being a psychologist will be too much for me with all my illness. Do u have any thoughts on this?

        • MickShell

          693d

@MoonFairy I have the same fear. I'm also a psych major and my passion is working with Autistic kiddos. I had to quit the job and school bc of how sick I got. Now that I'm getting better I have no idea what the future holds and if I'll ever be up to going back to that job. It's very physically and mentally demanding, so I'm very worried. But my support system reminds me that I can explore and find other passions within psych that won't be such a big toll on myself. I'm not even back at school yet so it's a ways away. I'm confident that there's a career in psych that will allow you to have the passion AND keep your body/mind "safe". Keep looking?

      • trish89

        691d

@Laylah I get that too. I can recognize when it is happening but I don't know how to stop it. I usually sit down, close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. I use a 4 count exercise to help take in oxygen. It helps my to relax and clear my brain. I also use sticky notes so that I don't forget things. I also keep track of when my brain gets foggy.

@trish89 its the not knowing how to stop it thats gets me. Its hard to explain to others especially in a work setting that my memory and brain fog is a very real thing for me and happens often. 732d

@Doctor_Rainman @laylah for people who are very close to you, maybe you can just be upfront, but I agree… would caution against sharing too much with either strangers or especially in a work environment or something… and not sure what your situation is, but you don’t have to feel bad, after all, brain farts can really happen to anyone at anytime 🤗 lol
